Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Always a favourite with collectors, Bee Hive Corn Syrup issued their hockey photos for decades, from the height of the great depression until the onset of the expansion era. A number of other collectibles and trinkets were issued by the confectioner, including rings, tie clips and lapel pins. We have a wonderful gathering of Bee Hive items, highlighted by a desirable 1949-51 Maurice Richard ring. There is also a 5 lb Bee Hive can, a Syl Apps advertising brochure, a 1934-43 Premium NHL Team Shield advertisement, photo envelope, 7 1944-64 Bee Hive redemption collars (6 different), an inner cardboard Bee Hive seal, a newsprint advertisement for Bee Hive rings and a 1950 “Montana” comic book advertising Bee Hive items on the back cover. There is also a Bee Hive scribbler that has been signed by 10 including Hull, Keon, Lindsay and others.
The Bee Hive scribbler has been signed on the cover by 4 with Hull, Keon, Ullman and Andy Bathgate, while the interior has been signed by 7 including Red Kelly, Johnny Bower, Charlie Hodge, Ted Lindsay, Henri Richard, Norm Ullman and one other. The Richard ring has light wear across the face including small blemishes beneath Richard’s ear and above his forehead, with some discolouration to the reverse. The remaining items exhibits just minor wear for the most part, with toning to the newsprint ring ad and expected moderate wear to the photo envelope. The Apps mini-brochure survives in beautiful condition, while the signed scribbler has a partially detached cover along the spine, with both the cover and interior signatures displaying extremely well. Lastly, the 5 lb can features wonderful graphics, with just minor wear from its prior use.
