Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/7/2017
Eighteen different groups of O-Pee-Chee cards will constitute an instant collection or dealer inventory for some hobbyist out there, with the extensive bonanza featuring all NHL sets from 1975-76 to ’89-90, with the exception of the Gretzky (’79-80) and Lemieux (’85-86) rookie card years. We of course cannot inspect absolutely every example but can tell that our consignor had good taste and did not collect any junk, with the 1970s sets averaging EX to EX+ and things typically improving with the ‘80s sets which average EX-MT (early-‘80s) to NM or better (mid-to-late ‘80s). We only spot the odd intermittent marked checklist or team checklist. Key rookie cards include ’76-77 Trottier (EX), ’78-79 Bossy (EX+), ’80-81 Messier (EX-MT (OC)) and Bourque (EX+), ’81-82 Coffey (EX-MT (OC)), ’84-85 Yzerman (EX+ (OC)) and ’86-87 Roy (NM). Complete WHA sets are from ’76-77 and ’77-78, with a partial set (54/66) from ’74-75. Complementing are ’80-81 OPC “Giant” and ’89-90 OPC sticker sets, with all ensembles nicely presented, housed in well-identified binders. Please see our website for a few more details.
A couple of commons are missing from the 1970s; not present in the ’76-77 binder is #349-Jim Moxey, while the following year is minus #299-Bob Stewart. The dozen cards required to fill-in the ’74-75 WHA set are #s 4, 8, 17, 27, 32, 33, 42, 55, 56, 58, 60 and 66. Like we like to say, lots of possibilities here!
