Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017

Shot on location at the Amazon River in Brazil with an estimated paltry budget of just $155,000, Curucu, Beast of the Amazon was released by Universal in 1956, and it’s recognized more as a jungle adventure film opposed to the horror fest advertised by the studio. Plantation owners come face to face with a previously unseen bird monster when they head down the amazon to investigate the desertion of workers, with terror ensuing. We have a typically-sized one sheet movie poster for the film. Advertising Eastman color, the poster features the starring “beast” front and center, with Brazilian tribesman in full battle mode. Lured in with the tag line “Like nothing your eyes have ever seen before!” after a single showing, it was probably something your eyes wish they had forgotten. The poster survives admirably, with vibrant colours along with a fairly clean surface. There is some wear at fold line intersections, with some light wrinkling and creasing along the borders. There is also some spotting/foxing to the reverse, with a pair of small holes along the top section most likely from a former mounting.
Written and directed by Curt Siodmak, the genius behind such genre classics as The Wolf Man (1941), Bride of the Gorilla (1951), Donovan's Brain (1953), and Earth vs. the Flying Saucers (1956). Poster artwork by Reynold Brown.
