Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2017
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 3/8/2017
A constant threat to netminders when he was on his game, Alexei Kovalev spent 18 seasons in the NHL, rattling off a number of firsts along the way including being the first Russian ever drafted in the preliminary round. We have an Ottawa Senators jersey that was worn by the superstar in 2010-11, and it’s been photo-matched. Size tagging along with a Reebok name band sit along the collar, with NHL and Reebok crests on the front and back necklines respectively. Featuring a clean and attractive Senators team crest, the “White Set 2” garment has been accented with double-twill numbers along with matching alternate patches over each shoulder. A MeiGray patch numbered H05256 sits on the inside hem, with a matching LOA to accompany.
Game-wear on the Kovalev jersey includes a few faint board burns over each sleeve, along with dark marks on the lower reverse. There are also 5 large team repairs present, with 4 examples on the left sleeve and a single repair on the right, along with a faint washed-out blood stain beneath the front collar. Regarding the previously mentioned photo-match, Getty Image #108880111 from Feb 5th 2011 has been matched to the long white loose thread on the team patch on the right shoulder, and to the washed-out blood stain below the front collar.
