Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
With a brief period of existence from just 1960-75, the Portland Buckaroos of the WHL are enthusiastically collected, with any and all surviving material from the short-lived club highly sought after. We have such an item for your collecting interests, with a circa 1962-63 Portland Buckaroos game-worn jersey, attributed to Portage La Prairie native and inaugural Oakland Seals assistant coach, Gord Fashoway. An Oregon Athletic Equipment label along with size tagging remains affixed to the collar, with the vintage garment styled with “Buckaroos” in attractive script placed across the chest in double-twill, repeated with the numbers on the sleeves and verso. Accented with a black collar and cuffs, dual-sleeve and lower front striping bands have also been utilized, with six-eyelet configuration on tie-neck construction. A “Portland The Rose City” patch also resides over the left shoulder.
The vintage garment is showing a number of minor issues, with a few marks present along with a couple of small unrepaired holes. There are also 6 team repairs, with 2 on the lower front along with single examples over each sleeve, while the torn collar also exhibits a pair, including a hastily executed example near the tie-neck. We should note that there is evidence of a former captain’s “C” beneath the current “A”, with this example lighter in colour, lending to the possibility of the garment originally being recycled for use by the Kelowna Buckaroos of the BCJHL. A great looking vintage game-worn Buckaroos jersey!
