The famed 1980 Miracle on Ice US hockey team took part in 61 pre-Olympic games, commencing on Sept 3rd 1979, and ending when they played their last exhibition game on Feb 9th 1980. They would compete against professional, college and international teams, finishing with an impressive record of 42-16-3. We have six programs from pre-Olympic match-ups for your consideration, including examples against the Minnesota North Stars, Birmingham Bulls, University of Wisconsin and Gorki Torpedo (Russian “B” team). Each 20-page affair measures roughly 8 ¼” x 11”, with different images of Team USA members featured on the covers, including Broten, Suter, Christian and goaltender Jim Craig.
The breakdown for each of the six offered Team USA programs are as follows. 1) Sept 29th 1979 vs Minnesota North Stars. The Americans lost this early exhibition contest, 4-2. The program itself exhibits just a small surface bend, along with regular handling wear. 2) Nov 4th 1979 vs the Birmingham Bulls. A 6-4 victory for Team USA, the high grade example suffers from just a single tiny edge tear along the top section. 3) Nov 20th 1979 vs the Salt Lake City Golden Eagles. Another 6-4 victory was banged out by the Americans, with the program surviving in gorgeous condition. 4) Dec 11-13th 1979 vs Gorki Torpedo. A huge 10-3 victory was celebrated by Team USA, with just a single small edge tear along the bottom cover the only issue. 5) Jan 15th 1980 vs the University of Wisconsin. Yet another win for the boys in red, white and blue, this time by a score of 4-2, with the program remaining in gorgeous high-grade. 6) Jan 31st 1980 vs the Dallas Blackhawks. Formerly of the CHL, the Blackhawks were no match for the Americans on this evening, losing 10-6. With absolutely no issues to note, this last program’s cover features a Team USA team photo.
