Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Offered is a rare and interesting piece of Canada's international hockey history! In 1966, the Drumheller Miners captured the Allan Cup, Canada's national senior championship. The team was then selected to represent Canada in a tour of Europe in the winter of 1966-67 and they played a good number of games overseas, including the Ahearne Cup tournament held in Stockholm, Sweden. The Miners are believed to be the first free-world hockey team to compete in East Germany during the Cold War. This vintage durene knit jersey differs slightly from the ones the team wore in 1966 as it has had the word Drumheller added to the chest in black and you can easily make out where it once had large block letters spelling "CANADA" across the back above the numbers and the outline of "CENTENNIAL" arched below that is also no longer there, though remnants of the old thread remains. Sadly, the team removed these letters when they returned home and recycled the jerseys for later use. Great wear overall with a handful of unrepaired holes and some staining to note.
