Scarce style black-label Maska durene gamer attributed to Hall-of-Fame defenseman Jacques Laperriere. The set, with the black and gold Maska tagging in the neck, saw very limited use with the Canadiens circa 1973 or 1974. With the famous number "2" in two-layer tackle twill on the back and arms and the historic three-tone CH emblem at the chest, the jersey also sports the original lace in the tie-neck collar. Only a couple of these hard-to-find uniforms have entered the hobby to date, including a photo-matched red durene Guy Lafleur example. This is the only white jersey of the set we have seen. Little to no game use can be discerned on this jersey but it has seen washing and wear as the blue tackle twill on the cresting and numbers has faded to take on a purplish hue. This is also apparent on both of the known red examples of the style, where the blue tackle twill layer has turned color. Lappy played out his entire career with the Montreal Canadiens, winning six Stanley Cups with the team between 1962 and 1974. He would go on to win two more championships as coach and enter hockey's shrine in 1987. A rare and intriguing find!
Obtained just recently from the family of a former airline baggage employee who often retold the tale of how a Hab's equipment bag "fell" of an baggage cart back in the Seventies and that the contents were shared between the ramp workers. This might explain the scarcity and lack of knowledge of the black tag Maska Montreal Canadiens uniforms. Or perhaps the color fading and laundering issues might be a truer explanation as to why these sets did not see much ice time.
