Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Those who pursue complete hockey matchbooks from the 1930s will be excited at this impressive assembly, surely a years-in-the-making collection. Two highlights are a rare (tan) two-matchbook cello pack containing examples picturing Frank Finnigan and Irvine Frew of the St. Louis Eagles and a silver one picturing legendary athlete Lionel Conacher, the latter in superb difficult-to-hope-for nicer condition. Other silvers depict Doc Romnes and Butch Keeling, while the tan lineup consists of the following: Type 1: Eagles Cowley, Kaminsky, Ripley, Voss, Americans Brydge, Conn, McVeigh and Rangers Johnson, Heller. Type 2: Rangers Levinsky, Dillon. Type 3: Canadiens Runge, Rangers Boucher, Dillon and Americans Klein, Chapman, Voss, Brydge. Miscellaneous Black Hawks are Cook (two different), Dahlstrom, Gottselig, Karakas, Loughlin, March, Trudel and Wiebe. All matchbooks are in attractive collectible condition, with a creased/low grade Bill Cook tan example tossed onto the pile. Some of these guys could really light it up, eh!
To note is a slit in the clear cellophane of the unopened pack of two; along the striker of the Frew matchbook.
