Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
Remarkable and rare sights to behold are these somewhat familiar-looking bottle caps which however are free of the words “Drink Coke” or “Buvez Coke” or “Taste Sprite” beneath the hockey players’ images. The silvery finish seen on caps that indeed were put on bottles of Coca-Cola and Sprite during the 1964-65 season, as well as the cork liners, are also not present on this "proof" ensemble. The lineup includes legends Howe, Beliveau, Hull, Hall, Sawchuk, Plante, Horton, Mikita, Esposito and several other HOFers, along with supporting cast members who helped write the story of the Original Six era. We spot the odd intermittent scratch while perusing the near mint beauties, with each treasure in an individual clear holder and superbly presented, in alphabetical order, in binder pages. What a binder! We’ve deciphered that the two missing caps picture New York’s Jim Mikol and Montreal’s Bobby Rousseau.
