Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
The stars and superstars who wowed us in the late-1970s and early-‘80s highlight our consignor’s childhood collection, with the keen Canadian baseball youngster opening lots of O-Pee-Chee packs, leading to plenty of duplication. Although no better than VG, three Ozzie Smith ’79 OPC rookie cards are a good start, while four ’78 Nolan Ryans average VG+. The vast majority of cards are from the ’77 to ’81 range, with multiples of Hall-of-Famers George Brett, Reggie Jackson, Johnny Bench (a F-G ’71 OPC is included), Tom Seaver, Steve Carlton, Carl Yastrzemski, Dave Winfield, Pete Rose, Joe Morgan, Willie McCovey, Thurman Munson, Rod Carew, Paul Molitor, Robin Yount, Eddie Murray and more leading the way. The star cards look to have been stored in 9-pocket pages for a number of years and generally range from VG to EX, while some intermittent light warping/curling and rubber band marks are spotted amongst some of the rest, sorted in good old fashion “by team” style. Our consignor informs of upwards of 2000 cards total, with some definite sorting fun awaiting the new owner.
