Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016

Following in the skate strides of legendary Beantown blueliners that includes Sprague Cleghorn, Eddie Shore and Bobby Orr, Ray Bourque would spend over two decades in black and gold, serving as the inaugural American team’s longest tenured captain. This Bruins jersey was worn by the HOFer in 1994-95, and it’s been signed. A CCM label along with a size “54” fly tag remain affixed to the collar, with embroidered CCM and NHL crests on the back bottom hem. Featuring the famous spoked-B team crest that first saw use in the late-1940s, the solid white V-neck has been accented with double-twill numbers, captain’s “C” and name-on-nameplate. There are also matching alternate patches residing over each shoulder. Bourque has added a nice and large signature in marker over the right breast including his number, and it displays well, with just a bit of fading. An LOA from noted Bruins collector Harvey McKenney will accompany.
Game-wear on the important Bourque sweater includes a number of marks on the lower front, along with additional marks and board burns over each sleeve. There is also some spot staining present, along with at least a dozen team repairs! Nine are visible over the left sleeve, along with a pair on the right and a single example near the nameplate on verso. We should note that four included digital images seem to be showing the special characteristics of the captain's "C", but none are high resolution enough to call a definitive photo-match.
