Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
While many sports have their tragic heroes, hockey is exceptionally noted for those who came to sad and sudden abrupt ends, including Georges Vezina, Charlie Gardiner, Bill Barilko and of course, Tim Horton. After suffering a 4-2 loss to the Maple Leafs on the evening of Feb. 20th 1974, Tim, the game's third star, was killed around 4:30 the following morning in an auto accident as he made his way back home. We have here the very program for Tim Horton's last game, along with his funeral program from the Orioles-York Mills United Church.
This 48 page program shows no signs of wear or damage other than a few small indentations to the cover, along with a few spots of light spine wear. Measuring at 8 ½” x 11", it would definitely be suited to a nice frame. The single page fold-over funeral program measures 8 ½” x 11” when opened, and it’s been laminated. The interior reveals, among other things, that the service was held at Oriole-York Mills United Church in Willowdale (Ontario) and that hymns sung were “What A Friend We Have In Jesus” and “How Great Thou Art”. With a snipped lower right corner, the keepsake is a stirring piece to hold. Horton left behind a wife and four daughters, and of course, a legacy.
