Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
A standout with Renfrew in the first decade of the 20th century, goaltender Bert Lindsay was active until the 1918-19 season, seeing the bulk of his career split between the NHA and PCHA. Bert is also the father of Hall of Famer Ted, with these items originating from Ted’s personal collection. We have postcards featuring the Renfrew Creamery Kings hockey club from 1907 and ’08, Bert’s C57 hockey card, a small oval Renfrew team photo from the same era and a Renfrew “Line-Up” card, that features the clever use of the player’s names to spell “Victory”. Both postcards have been trimmed, while the C57 and “Victory” team card both exhibit heavy creasing. The photo also exhibits a large crease and light staining, with residue on verso from a former scrapbook mounting. An LOA from the Lindsay family will accompany.
The 1907 postcard has been trimmed to current dimensions of just over 3 ¼” x 5”, and it remains in pleasing condition with some corner wear and toning to the reverse. The 1908 example is roughly 3 ¼” x 4 7/8”, and it also remains in pleasing condition with light wear to the surface. The oval team photo is 5 ¼” at its widest point, with some staining around the perimeter along with the aforementioned crease and verso residue. The “Victory” card is 2 ½” x 3 ¾” on thick stock, and it suffers from a number of creases along with glue and paper residue on the reverse from scrapbook removal. The C57 of Lindsay is card #13, and it has a number of condition issues including heavy creases and rounded corners along with a few edge tears. The back suffers from the same issues, with the majority of the text intact and legible.
