Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
With over a quarter-century of service as the NHL’s first president, Frank Calder’s legacy lives on in the Calder Memorial Trophy awarded to the league’s top rookie each season. This lot contains a typed letter on NHL letterhead that’s been signed by the Hall of Fame builder. At roughly 8 ½” x 11”, the cream-coloured document features correspondence addressed to a Mr. Dion regarding the rights to a particular player. Dated Dec 5th 1931 and on official NHL stationary, Calder has signed beneath the typed text in period fountain pen, and the signature is exemplary. The single page remains in excellent condition, with expected fold lines present along with a bend to the upper right corner. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
There is also a small pinhole worth mentioning in the upper left. We should also note that the signed letter has Mr. Calder’s correspondence info in the top left corner. Deceased since 1943, the inaugural NHL president was enshrined in the Hall of Fame in 1947.
