Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
The current high bid for the set, $1,997.00, is greater than the aggregate total of the bids on the sublots that comprise this set, $1,855.00 (this lot is currently winning)
Scarce pre-war collectibles feature classic poses of some of the era’s top stars, with collectors back in the day having to save 50(!) “Ice King” wrappers and one premium wrapper to be able to send away for one of the big 7” by 9” premium cards, printed on thick card stock. A spellbinding Howie Morenz example leads and displays well, despite a pinhole in the upper border, light corner wear and slight warping. The image is free of creases, with light wrinkling in the border’s lower right corner. The King Clancy picture has an EX appearance, with light corner wear and slight warping, while that of Canadiens’ legend Aurele Joliat is the condition leader at EX+ to EX-MT. Hap Day’s card exhibits surface scratches, a two-inch crease (upper right corner region) and wear and minor paper loss in the corners. A Hooley Smith premium (VG-EX) has light to moderate corner wear, while completing is Allan Shields. It has an EX appearance but subtle light back damage lowers its actual grade. At the end of the auction, the set will be sold to the highest aggregate bidding, whether that is the sum of the individual lots or the highest bid for the complete set. Our website will automatically reflect whichever portion has received the highest bidding total. Special pieces for a pre-war shrine!
