Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
Drafted 4th overall by the LA Kings in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft, Hall of Famer Larry Murphy is currently the fifth highest scoring defenceman of all-time. This Penguins jersey was worn by Murphy in 1993-94, and it’s been photo-matched. CCM tagging with handwritten “55” sits on the collar along with a “54” size tag, with embroidered NHL and CCM patches on the back bottom hem. Styled with attractive drop-shadow team letters and tackle twill numbers, the jersey also sports penguin crests over each shoulder. Heavy game-wear is exhibited on the solid black gamer, with a number of dark marks on the lower front band and sleeves, along with considerable board burns over both elbows. An LOA from Classic Auctions will be included.
A number of team repairs are also present on the jersey, with 4 repairs on and around the left elbow, and another pair on the right sleeve. There is also some pilling around the garment’s collar worth mentioning. The image from Parkhurst hockey card #179 from 1994-95 has been matched to the black marks through the "R" of "Penguins”, and to a black mark on the right sleeve at the junction of the black and yellow bands.
