Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
Seldom seen, we have the 1948 participation medal that was presented to Julius “Pete” Leichnitz for his involvement with Canada’s Olympic representative, the gold medal winning RCAF Flyers. At 1 ½” in diameter, the obverse displays the Olympic rings and the inscription "Vmes Jeux Olympiques D’hiver St Moritz 1948" with the name of the maker "Hughenin" on the lower edge along with faint snowflakes in the background. The reverse depicts the symbolic figure of Victory with a mountain range in the lower background, with the name of the maker "Hughenin" again on the lower edge. The medal remains in gorgeous condition, and it will be accompanied by its original box. An LOA from the Leichnitz family will also be included.
The original box features the Olympic rings on top in gold, with “Huguenin Medailleurs Le Locle” on the inside lid. The box has issues including loss on the bottom, with the seam brittle and deteriorating and the lid partially detached.
