Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016

Originally known as the Cougars followed by the Falcons, the Detroit Red Wings remain one of the most consistently successful teams in the NHL, third for all-time Cup wins behind Montreal and Toronto. This stick was used by Al Motter in the early-1940s, and it’s been team signed. A desirable CCM decal model, the stick has “3” stamped on the upper shaft with handwritten “Motter”. With the original tape on the shaft and blade, the stick shows heavy use, with considerable wear to the blade along with numerous marks on the lower shaft. 18 have signed, with the signatures especially bold and dark including deceased HOFers Jack Stewart, Ebbie Goodfellow, Sid Abel (smudged) and Syd Howe.
Others who have signed include players who spent a short amount of time with Detroit, including Bob Whitelaw (1940-42 - 32 games over 2 seasons), Floyd Perras, Carl "Winky" Smith (1943-44 - 7 games), Donnie Hughes (a coach), Art Bogue, Orville "Rolly" Roulston (1935-36 1 game, 1937-38 2 games, mainly played minor leagues) and others. Mud Bruneteau and Jimmy Orlando have also signed. As mentioned, the blade shows heavy use, with strands near the tip starting to peel away.
