Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016

A sharp-looking 1973-74 Topps complete set is a swell start to this group, with the vast majority of cards NM or better and many NM-MT and NM-MT+ cards spotted, to go along with even MINT examples. Centering is not always perfect and notable condition exceptions include #150-Orr (miscut and showing blue on one border, although the card is crease-free), 10-Dryden (EX) and one filler common; 143-Johnston. The Billy Smith RC is in attractive NM-MT shape but off-centered. A complete 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee set includes a Wayne Gretzky rookie that has small creases in the corners, corner wear and a surface scratch, dropping it to VG at best, with however positives being good centering and no unsightly flaws affecting the image. EX cards tend to dominate the rest of the set, with VG, VG+ and VG-EX examples also present. It’s then back to Topps for complete sets from ’88-89 and ’89-90, housed in 9-pocket pages and with no apparent condition issues. Completing are miscellaneous smaller sets; a 1977-78 OPC insert set featuring 22 near mint “square” cards, (as opposed to more common rounded-corner affairs), (16) folded mini posters, (5” x 7”), which came in ‘80-81 Topps packs, 17 cello packs of mini cards in team sets, (336 cards total for a complete set), from ’82-83 Post Cereal and finally, an opened ’92-93 OPC factory set. Several possibilities with this varied stash.
