Rechristened the California Golden Seals in 1970, any and all signed items from early expansion teams rarely make themselves available to the collecting community. This lot features a stick used by Carol Vadnais during the first season that California added “Golden” to their moniker, and it’s been team-signed. Accompanying the Vadnais stick, we have a stick used by Bill Flett and team-signed by the 1975-76 Atlanta Flames, and a stick issued to Ed Gilbert that’s been team-signed by the Kansas City Scouts in the mid-1970s. The Vadnais stick is a Sher-Wood Pattern model with “Vadnais” and “5” on the shaft, with the stick retaining its original tape jobs on the blade and handle/knob. The front side of the shaft has been sanded down to properly accept approx. 18 signatures scripted in marker including Tony Featherstone, Dennis Hextall, Wayne Muloin, Norm Ferguson, Earl Ingarfield, Ted Hampson, Bill Hicke, Carol Vadnais, Gary Jarrett, Ron Stackhouse and others. Next we have the Bill Flett stick. A Sher-Wood Pattern Made model, “Flett” appears on the shaft with the original tape on the blade and handle/knob. The tape on the handle is also becoming loose. The front side of the stick has been shaved down to accept approx. 20 signatures, including coach Fred Creighton, Hilliard Graves, Rey Comeau, Bill Flett, Tim Ecclestone, Bill Clement, Phil Myre and others. A number of the signatures have faded heavily. Lastly, we have a stick issued to Ed Gilbert, signed by the KC Scouts. “Gilbert” sits on the upper shaft of the Pattern Made Sher-Wood stick, which exhibits surface cracking along the shaft, with loss near the top. Signed by approx. 11 in fiber-tip marker, included are Randy Rota, Robin Burns, Jean-Guy Lagace and others.
