Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016

Unopened O-Pee-Chee baseball card wax boxes from the early-1970s tend to surface rather infrequently, with this 1972 2nd Series box of 36 packs sure to garner interest. Each pack contains eight cards numbered between 264 and 394. If temptation overcomes, possible pack pulls would be led by #299-Hank Aaron, 300-Aaron in Action, 309-Clemente and 310-Clemente in Action. The cards of fellow Hall-of-Famers 270-Palmer, 280-McCovey, 285-Perry, 313-Aparicio and 330-Hunter would also be possibilities. Marvelous brick displays well with no nasty/unsightly flaws and has an inverted “2nd Series” sticker affixed to the die-cut box top, with a nickel-size tear in the front panel, where scotch tape was originally placed. A side panel includes the French “Gomme Balloune” (bubble gum). Sealed and certified by Baseball Card Exchange, with the firm’s identifying label beneath the shrink-wrap on the bottom, this 40-plus year old prize is inviting.
