Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
Cards from a time when a skinny teenager by the name of Wayne Gretzky was beginning to forge his NHL legacy are up for grabs here, with two 1979-80 O-Pee-Chee rookie cards leading the way. One is nicely centered but is dropped to VG or VG+ due to two small light horizontal bends, to each side of Wayne’s image. The other exhibits better focus and is crease-free but grades similarly, with centering issues and diagonal surface scratches just above Gretz’ helmet the grade-lowering culprits. Two of three All-Star cards from ’80-81 are EX, with a third #87 off-centered and VG-EX. An Oilers team leaders card from the same year, with unmarked team checklist on the reverse, is VG+, while another has three boxes penned-in on the back and is otherwise VG. Tossed-in is a miscut record breaker card (#3) that is however otherwise crease-free and near mint. A few possibilities for the winning bidder here.
