Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
Issued over a two-year period in the mid-1970’s, the Hockey Heroes Sportrophy sets feature images of players from 6 different NHL clubs on pressed cardboard that are meant to be assembled for stand-alone display. The 1975-76 series features members of the Bruins, Sabres and Flyers and measure roughly 8 ¾” x 15 ½”, while the second series issued in 1976-77 includes members of the Canadiens, Islanders and Leafs, and are more diminutive than the inaugural set at roughly 7 ½” x 13 ½”. In this lot we have 29 examples from the first series, along with 24 for the second series including obvious duplication for both issues, with all examples except two still sealed. This constitutes a full set for the second series, with only Martin and Schoenfelt needed for a complete first set.
In excellent condition with just light handling wear and toning to the reverse for each, from the first series we have Orr (2), Ratelle (2), Cheevers (2), O’Reilly (2), Park (2), Savard (2), Sheppard (2), Barber, Schultz (2), Parent (2), Clarke (2), Leach (2), MacLeish (2), along with rarer Sabres examples with Korab, Robert, Gare and Perreault. Included for the second series are Risebrough, Cournoyer, Lafleur, Lemaire, Mahovlich, Robinson, Williams, McDonald, Salming, Thomas, Thompson, Sittler, Westfall (2), Harris (2), Resch (2), Potvin (2), Hart (2) and Bryan Trottier (2).
