A day most Brooklynites would sooner forget, the Dodgers left the East Coast for sunny California in 1957, and despite fielding some of the greatest players of all-time, the Bums from Flatbush only managed one World Championship in 1955. Fortunes changed along with the scenery, with the Dodgers of LA winning the World Series 5 times including 1959, 1963 and 1965. The ’59 Series witnessed the Dodgers beat the Chicago White Sox in six games, while the Yankees proved to be no competition for LA in the 1963 Series, going down in four straight games. The 1965 World Series would see the Minnesota Twins, who hadn’t been in a Fall Classic since they were known as the Washington Senators, taking on the Dodgers. This Series would go the distance, with Sandy Koufax pitching two shutouts including a three-hitter with ten strikeouts, allowing the Dodgers to capture their second title in three years. This lot contains pairs of programs for the three mentioned years, along with a 1962 World Series phantom program cover.
We have examples for both venues for the 1959, 1963 and 1965 programs, all unscored. All of the 6 offered programs are roughly 8 ½” x 11 ¼” or a bit smaller, except for the 1963 program issued for Yankee Stadium, which measures 9” x 11 ¾”. All remain in very pleasing condition, with just normal handling wear commensurate with their former use. This may include the odd surface wrinkle, small crease, corner/spine wear and light toning. The only exceptions are the 1959 program issued for Comiskey Park, which exhibits heavier wear and toning along with a tear that runs partially up the spine, and the 1963 program issued for Yankee Stadium which shows moderate spine wear, along with some staining/discolouration on the inside of the front cover. The 1962 World Series phantom program cover exhibits some creasing along with edge wear.
