This extremely attractive watercolour of Wayne Gretzky has been expertly painted by American artist Gerard Johnson II. Known for his works regarding sports, Johnson is also adept at executing still lifes. At 10 ½” x 14”, the authentic likeness of The Great One is featured in game action against a colourful purple background. Wayne has signed in the upper left with a nice example of his signature. Matted with orange piping to total dimensions of 17” x 20 ½”, the artist’s signature sits in the bottom right.
Gerard Thomas Johnson II, a self - taught artist, was born in Texas. He spent four years in the military serving his country from 1971 to 1975.
Utilizing the medium of watercolors, most of Gerard Thomas Johnson's paintings began in an attempt to capture an impression or the effect of light and shadows on a particular object. His powerful and expressive style along with his use of vivid colors excites the eye and truly brightens our imagination. His style is precise and clear which presents a very real and life like portrait. He presents his sports figures in a traditional style while capturing the subjects emotions and expressions. While Gerard is an accomplished sports artist, he also adeptly paints still life images utilizing very vivid watercolors.
