Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
The Toronto Maple Leafs finished the season with a record of 23-18-7 in 1931-32, which was good enough to finish 2nd in their division. They then went on to crush the NY Rangers in three straight games to claim their 2nd Stanley Cup in franchise history. This mini-stick has been signed by that very team. At 33”, the one-piece stick features ink signatures scripted entirely on one side, with the remnants of a paper label from maker Reach/Wright & Ditson present. 18 have signed with the signatures exhibiting some fading/bleeding, including deceased Hall of Famers Smythe, Jackson, Primeau, Conacher, Clancy, Horner, Day and Ace Bailey. An LOA from Classic Auctions will accompany.
“Toronto Maple Leafs – Stanley Cup Champions – 1932” appears handwritten across the frontside of the blade, with “Stanley Cup Champions 1932” along with the image of a maple leaf on verso. Others who have signed this antique stick include Blair, Gracie, Finnigan, Cotton, Darragh, Levinsky, Miller, Robertson and goalie Lorne Chabot. We should note that Charlie Sands has also signed, who was on hand despite not starting officially with the club until 1932-33. The inclusion of Miller and Finnigan also help verify the date, as Miller only played for the Leafs in 1931-32, while Finnigan would play for the Leafs in just 1931-32, than rejoin the club again for another three seasons starting in 1934-35.
