Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
The Montreal Canadiens won the Prince of Wales Trophy in 1967-68, the first season the award was presented to the regular season champions of the NHL's East Division. Prior to the 1967 expansion, the trophy had gone to the team that finished first overall during the regular season dating back to the 1938-39 season. Jacques Laperriere's full name is engraved on the H.R.H. Prince of Wales Trophy plaque on the front of the 2" high wood base of this original trophy that was presented to him by the league. With its distinctive lid, the trophy stands just under 13" tall. A plaque on the back of the wood base reads "N.H.L. Champions, Winners 1967-68, Club de Hockey Canadien". Produced by Boffey, the trophy itself exhibits significant tarnishing as would be normal for its vintage. The trophy is autographed by Laperriere on the green felt bottom under the wood base. A great find for Canadiens collectors, it comes with Laperriere's signed letter of authenticity.
