Tight end Peter Dalla Riva won the first of his three Grey Cup titles with the Montreal Alouettes as a member of the 1970 team that won the city's first football title in 21 years. Dalla Riva, a member of the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, wore this green durene Alouettes jersey during the Als' 23-10 win over the Calgary Stampeders on November 28, 1970 in the 58th Grey Cup Game at Toronto's Exhibition Stadium. The original white and red tackle twill No. 74 remains sewn on the front and back, as well as both shoulders. The stitching on the frayed left side of the original red Rawlings manufacturer's tag on the inside of the tail has let go. The right side, which indicates a size 48 jersey, remains sewn in place. The left side of a "Made in U.S.A." tag to its right has frayed off and the tag hangs loose, while a laundry instruction tag remains sewn in place beside it. This one-of-a-kind Grey Cup championship jersey originally came from Peter Dalla Riva's personal collection and will come with a Classic Auctions LOA.
As per the requirements of his position, the sleeves of the jersey were folded up and sewn snugly in place with some elasticity by the team's equipment staff in order to prevent opponents from getting a good grip. In addition to catching passes, Dalla Riva also provided plenty of blocking help on the line and his handiwork is evidenced by the incredible wear on this beauty of a Grey Cup gamer, with tears, cuts and fabric runs galore throughout the jersey, including where a nameplate was removed on the back of the shoulders. Special Grey Cup champions patches on the left sleeve that were worn on the jersey during the 1971 season were removed by the team.
