Historical Hockey and Sports Memorabilia Auction September 2023

Choosing not to return to the Saginaw Hawks of the IHL for the 1989-90 season, Ed Belfour instead donned the red and white of his country and played with the Canadian National Team, suiting up for a total of 33 games before playing in nine (9) contests with Chicago during the 1990 NHL Playoffs. Hailing from his personal collection, we offer this Ed Belfour Team Canada game jersey from the 1990 Spengler Cup in which “Eddie the Eagle” tended the crease for two games as Canada was defeated in the finals by HC Spartak Moscow. Featuring a size “XL” tag affixed to the inner collar with “Made in Italy” printed underneath and washing instructions on the reverse side, the Team Canada crests on the front and sides as well as the numbers over the front and verso plus logos of Adidas and the Spengler Cup are rubberized while a mesh nameplate affixed to the upper reverse displays “Belfour” having been spelt out in sublimated letters. Decorated with Adidas stripes down the sleeves and sewn on mesh construction “Therma” sponsorship patches over both the lower front and reverse, the jersey sports an additional “XXL” fly tag sewn inside the left shoulder. Exhibiting no clear signs of game wear (the only footage/images we could find show Belfour playing in the tournament final on December 31st vs Spartak wearing the white jersey), the piece remains in beautiful condition despite light stains over the left shoulder. Hailing from his personal collection, an LOA signed by Belfour will accompany the piece.
