Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction October 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/9/2016
This photo-matched beauty was worn by HOF goalie Ed Belfour during his second season with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2003-04. Ed’s trademark eagles grace each side of his game-worn Warwick goalie mask with his customary “Make-a-Wish Foundation” design over the chin. A Getty Images photo of Belfour taken on November 24, 2003 shows the chip on top of the upper right ear hole and other small chips on the same hole as well. It is also shows the small chips on the lower edge near the front, as well as the chip on the forehead, which was smaller than it is actually now. The original Bishop Custom Designs and Warwick Custom Masks stickers remain inside along with the all of the interior padding, but the top two clips that attached the cage to the mask are missing. Comes with its carrying bag and Ed Belfour’s signed LOA.
A good number of Getty Images photos show the forehead chip. The back head-piece has custom graphics showcasing a 1941 Willys for Ed’s racing company, named after his hometown of Carman, Manitoba. Dual-colour strapping coincides with the placement of the custom graphics. The mask’s interior padding has added velcro for the cloth forehead accessory, which is not included. The rest of the handwritten “Custom Made” silver paint pen notation inside the back has partially worn off and is mostly obscured.
