Posting one of the greatest rookie campaigns in NHL history, Ed Belfour would secure a league-record 43 wins during his first season in 1990-91, along with the William Jennings, Vezina and Calder Memorial Trophies. The Manitoba native would also be named a finalist for the Hart Memorial Trophy, the first rookie goaltender to receive the honour. This Vezina Trophy – his first of two - was presented to Ed Belfour in 1990-91 as he was adjudged to be the best NHL goaltender that season. Standing 13” in height, a silver column with mounted twin goal sticks and laurel wreath sits on a square wooden base. A centralized miniature net sits beneath a capped dome topped by a small detailed Canadian beaver. Offered as originally presented with no affixed engraved plaque, one listing “Ed Belfour” along with the trophy’s name, team and year awarded will accompany from Boffey, the trophy’s maker. The winners presentation card with “Ed Belfour” along with the original envelope with “Vezina Trophy” handwritten will accompany, as well as the original black cardboard trophy box with affixed NHL decal (8 ½” x 8 ½” x 15”). A signed LOA from Ed Belfour is also included.
The trophy remains in wonderful condition with a bit of surface wear along the bottom section, where the upper section is attached to the wooden base. There is also some additional surface wear visible encompassing the goal net, with the upper metal section currently loose from the base. The accompanying box also shows light wear.
