Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2016
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/15/2016
Formidable and fabulous are these 1955-56 Parkies, with sharp corners, smooth edges and luscious red bottom borders calling out to be professionally graded. Five dozen cards are from the same “batch” as our consignor’s Beckett-graded Jacques Plante RC and lot of 17 cards (offered in separate auction lots), the majority of which received grades in the 7 to 8 range. With a few exceptions, we see similar grades possible with these impressive beauties. An almost complete run of Maple Leafs numbered 4 to 34 is present (missing are #s 18, 19, 30), while a Canadiens contingent includes the likes of Moore, Harvey, Bouchard, Blake and Selke, with seven action cards also in primo shape. A lower left edge notch affects the Montreal Forum card while slight staining above the image of Maple Leaf Gardens is to be aware of. Notorious for being condition sensitive are ’55-56 Parkhurst cards, with this jackpot sure to pique the interest of hobbyists who enjoy high grade material. Please visit our website for more details of this inviting stash.
Notable condition issues affect 2-Sid Smith (somewhat unsightly uneven toning) and 56-Georges Vezina (uneven toning/staining and two production/printing lines visible in the red border). All-in-all though, high grade raw ’55-56 card lots like this have become next-to-impossible to locate.
