Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015

The 1935-36 Canadiens saw a changing of the guard so to speak. While veterans like Aurel Joliat were enjoying their final few seasons, up and comers like Toe Blake were just beginning their Hall of Fame careers. 17 signatures in total grace one side of this Montreal signed relic, including HOFers Sylvio Mantha, Aurel Joliat and Toe Blake. Other notables include “Pit” Lepine, George Mantha and Johnny Gagnon. While there is some fading and slight bleeding, the signatures, all executed in blue pen, are still very legible. Quality signed Canadiens items from this era are getting scarce.
17 autographs total have been placed on this stick, including those previously mentioned as well as Art Lesieur, Bill Miller, goaltender Wilf Cude, Leroy Goldsworthy, Jack McGill, and what appears to be “Billy” Boucher, the same Boucher who skated with the Habs from the early to mid-twenties. The stick itself, which was most likely game-used by one of the players, is solid and not cracked, with no issues to note. It has a nice patina, with the bottom striping sticker having been removed, but still leaves it’s red traces. The original tape job on the blade is still in place, and the tape that once covered the knob is no longer present.
