Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
An extensive, years-in-the-making collection of classic Quaker Oats photos here includes numerous highlights and more valuable pictures, with the only duplication being the best kind; two of Max Bentley posed in front of his locker, considered one of the most difficult images to track down! The team photo of the three-time Stanley Cup champion Maple Leafs, four Leafs-Canadiens action photos, Syl Apps and Ted Kennedy with Lord Stanley’s trophy, Toronto goalies McCool, Bell, Bastien and Lumley and four different of Broda are notable/desirable, with Montreal’s lineup including Richard, Blake, Beliveau, Laycoe portrait and four different of Durnan. With 202 photos listed in the Charlton guide, this ensemble comes close and constitutes an instant collection or very interesting dealer inventory. Please see our website for condition details.
The 8” by 10” pictures, on paper stock, display well in binder pages, with almost standard light bends visible in many upon closer inspection, but for the most part, nothing drastic or unsightly throughout. A few of the more notables do have condition issues to be aware of. Three of the four action photos have peripheral tape stains and one edge tear each, while four pinholes are spotted in the Beliveau. The Bentley locker room shot that is better than the other has a tiny piece missing in the lower left corner and a tiny three-digit number added to the back in blue ballpoint, while the lesser one has light creases, a half-inch edge tear and a small piece of yellow paper affixed to the reverse. Two quarter-inch tears are in the border of the Hal Laycoe (portrait) example. Overall, these are in what we like to call nice collectible condition.
