Intriguing are these little pieces of Canadiana, with Toronto's Dominion Chocolate Company paying tribute to Canada's top athletes with two sets of cards in the mid-1920s. These all feature hockey players and are from the first issue, a 120-card affair, which included 32 hockey subjects. The little tabs, or coupons, below each picture were designed to be cut-off and mailed-in as a set, in return for a prize, explaining the scarcity of intact/unaltered cards. The Toronto Granites team, winner of the 1924 Olympic gold medal, is featured on the condition leader here, with SGC slabbing the specimen EX 5. Most of the others received marks of VG 3, including individual cards of Granite players; #s 55-Collett, 57-Dunc Munro (Granites' team captain and later captain of the Montreal Maroons), 58-Rutherford, 59-Ramsay and 60-McCaffery. Also at VG 3 are others known to NHL historians, with goalie Vernon Forbes pictured as a Hamilton Tiger and future N.Y. American 101-Bill Brydge, then captain of the Port Arthur senior team. Completing are 86-Langtry (VG 3) and 92-Hughes (Good 2), with duplicates of 59-Ramsay and 86-Langtry both graded Fair 1.5.
