Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction November 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/3/2015
This 1928 NHL document features the rare signature of the Chicago Black Hawks' first president, Major Frederic McLaughlin. He pioneered the development of hockey in Chicago and in 1926 named Chicago's team after the famous Black Hawk regiment which he commanded during World War I. McLaughlin moved the team from the Coliseum into the new Chicago Stadium in 1929 and under his ownership the Hawks won the Stanley Cup in 1934 and 1938. He died in 1944. This NHL form notified Nicholas Wasnie that his contract had been assigned to Quebec (Beavers) of the Canadian-American League and that it was understood that the club would pay the balance of the player's contract which amounted to $1500. Nick Wasnie had broken into the NHL the previous fall but was sent to Quebec in January. Frederic McLaughlin's superb fountain pen signature is at the bottom of the form which will come in the Black Hawks envelope in which it was sent. Matted and framed to 16 3/8" x 18 3/4". Wonderful addition to a deceased Hall of Fame autograph collection.
