This signed original document, the late Maurice “Rocket” Richard’s NHL contract for his final season with the Montreal Canadiens, is an awesome piece of Habs and hockey history. The contract, which is signed by Richard and fellow deceased HOFers Frank Selke Sr. and NHL president Clarence Campbell, stipulates that the Rocket was to be paid $12,000 for the 1959-60 season plus a bonus of $100 “for every goal scored, including the playoffs” that paid him an extra $2,000 once he led the Habs to a record fifth Stanley Cup in a row. Selke has signed above Richard on the contract dated September 21, 1959 with both signatures witnessed by Lee Dillon, all the signatures in blue ballpoint. Campbell signed in blue fountain pen ink on the front of the wonderfully preserved 17” x 8 1/2" NHL Standard Player’s Contract, which displays the October 6, 1959 Central Registry stamp. Comes with a Classic Auctions LOA.
Richard cashed a $2,000 bonus after winning his record fifth straight Stanley Cup by scoring 19 goals during the regular season and adding his ony playoff goal on April 12, 1960, the final goal of his illustrious career in Game 3 of Montreal’s four-game sweep of Toronto in the Stanley Cup final to bring his season earnings to $14,000.
