While the great Tim Horton may be gone, his name lives on in Canada's favorite doughnut and coffee chain. A tragic end to a career that spanned an amazing 24 seasons in the NHL, shared amongst the Maple Leafs, Rangers, Penguins and finally, the Buffalo Sabres. On February 20th 1974, the St. Catharines Ontario native suited up for an eventual loss at the hands of his former Maple Leafs at MLG. Horton was selected as one of the games three top stars in this his swan song, despite the fact that he was playing with a jaw and ankle injury. Horton headed for home after the game and in the early morning of February 21st, he was killed when he lost control of his white De Tomaso Pantera sports car on the Queen Elizabeth Way in St. Catharines Ontario.
This extremely important Hall of Fame worthy Tim Horton Buffalo Sabres game-worn alternate captain's jersey was worn during his last fateful game! Correct era Rawlings tagging remains in the collar stating this historic garment is a size 46, and a number of stains are worth mentioning including a series of small yellow marks directly on the buffalo of the team logo, there's also a few errant thin white streaks on the bottom of the logo just beneath the sabre guards. A few additional small white stains also appear at the bottom right of the jersey, limited for the most part to the interior. This thought-provoking durene tie-neck is in otherwise amazing condition with absolutely no damage to note.
What's really incredible is the fact that this final uniform of Horton's can be definitively photo-matched! A framed magazine picture of Tim taken during his last game and included with this prize clearly shows two small sections of loose threading on the right sabre, perfectly matching the jersey.
A wondrous artifact in every possible way, it was originally obtained from an impeccable source in the Buffalo Sabres organization. While accolades of importance are constantly thrown around in the hobby, this all-important museum-caliber garment worn by Tim Horton in his very last game is miraculous, and worthy of the most advanced world-class hockey collection. Please note that this lot may be subject to a silent reserve.
