Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction June 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 6/19/2018
Celebrating the last line of defence, we have a wonderful collection of 6 game-used goal sticks all hailing from netminders that have spent time guarding the crease of the iconic Montreal Canadiens during the 1970s/1980s. Included are examples used by Bunny Larocque (mid-1970s Canadien), Richard Sevigny (circa 1981-82 Sher-Wood), Brian Hayward (late-1980s Victoriaville), Phil Myre (early-1970s Northland), Denis Herron (early-1970s Victoriaville) and Wayne Thomas (1973-74 Sher-Wood), with each stick featuring the user’s name over the shaft, along with the original tape over the blades and knobs (the Herron stick has had the blade tape removed).
The sticks exhibit varying degrees of use and remain solid, with some minor cracking and chipping to the heel sections on the Myre and Thomas sticks, along with cracking to both the blade and paddle on the Hayward example. We should note that the Myre stick was used while Phil was with the Flames, with the Herron stick most likely seeing action when he was a member of the Pittsburgh Penguins. It should be further noted that the Thomas stick exhibits a date stamp of "13 nov 1973", while the Sevigny example sports “Richard Sevigny 11 Dec / 81” handwritten across the front side of the blade.
