Two rarities and some scarcities headline this intriguing assembly, with killer newspaper ads promoting the two mid-1920s issues of the Dominion Chocolate Company’s “Dominion Athletic Stars” multi-sport card sets. They’ve survived in appealing condition and are fantastic for vintage card buffs to check out. From the 1930s and the Saturday Evening Post is a full-page ad featuring legends Shore, Conacher and Patrick endorsing Williams Shaving Cream and then it’s on to the Bee Hive material. Our favorites are beauty little four-page booklets starring Charlie Conacher and Syl Apps, with a list of (Group 1) photos available included in the former piece and another Bee Hive list dated December 1st, 1966 also present. There’s also a torn two-pound Bee Hive label, five EX to NM unused Bee Hive scribblers (four French, one English), three other English scribblers (unused but warped), five various-size mailing envelopes dating back to the Group 1 era and Bee Hive-like pictures of rower Bob Pearce and swimmer Charlotte Acres. A scarce newspaper ad promoting Detroit Times Sport Stamps depicts hockey player Marty Burke, with the 1949 Official NHL guide’s publication announced on a postcard-like affair mailed from Minneapolis in October of ’48. A strip of intact mini hockey cards (13) from 1951 includes goalies Karakas, Aitkenhead, Thompson, LoPresti and Bower, with handling/wear observed, while also nifty is a mini “Red Wings” felt pennant identified as “1949 Red Wings IHL, although actually a Rochester Red Wings baseball affair. Some (200) ’74-75 NHL Action Player Stamps (Loblaw’s) include some duplication and a few stars but not the biggies, with a few other miscellaneous items rounding out the varied, years-in-the-making collection.
