Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2018
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/6/2018
Boasting both the first glass used above the boards along with the largest contemporary dance hall in the US, Pittsburgh’s Duquesne Garden began life late in the 19th century, first serving as a trolly barn before being equipped to handle the duties of a multi-purpose arena. Home to the NHL’s Pittsburgh Pirates during the club’s tenure, the famous arena was demolished in 1956, with their last hockey tenant the AHL Pittsburgh Hornets. We have a program hailing from the venue from 1925, featuring the past International Speed Skating Championships that were held at the Garden on March 6th and 7th. Originally recycled for future use – a common trait with programs - with a single example made with inserts added for contemporary events. We have that here, with a loose insert listing a program of events for Nov 8th, with general skating, a race and a waltz. At 6” x 9 ¼”, the 4-page program exhibits toning along with a few minor stains, with faint writing over the reverse. Each staple is also heavily rusted.
