Originally founded as the Kansas City Scouts and relocating to Denver after just a pair of unsuccessful seasons in 1976-77, the Colorado Rockies competed in the Smythe Division, and despite being led from behind the bench by Don Cherry for a single-season in 1979-80, the club would again relocate to New Jersey, in 1982. The next professional team to entertain Mile High fans would be the Avalanche, beginning life in Colorado after relocating from Quebec, in 1995. This lot contains a great group of Rockies postcards ranging from the inaugural season of 1976-77 to 1981-82, totaling approx 168, along with Avalanche postcards to range from 1995-96 to the early-2000s and total approx 286, for a grand total of roughly 454 Rockies and Avalanche postcards. The breakdown by year for the Rockies postcards is as follows; 1976-77 – 29 black and white postcards including 9 signed with Paiement, Favell (signed) and others, 1977-78 – 34 black and white postcards including 3 signed, 1978-79 – 50 black and white postcards including 2 signed, 1979-80 - 25 black and white postcards including 1 signed with McDonald and others, 1981-82 – 30 black and white postcards. The breakdown by year for the Avalanche postcards is as follows; 1995-96 – 27 postcards including Roy, Sakic, Forsberg and others, 1996-97 – 24 postcards including Roy, Sakic and others, 1997-98 – 30 postcards including 5 signed with Roy, Sakic (signed), Kamensky (signed) and others, 1998-99 – 30 postcards including one of assistant coach Bryan Trottier signed, 1999-00 – 30 postcards including 2 signed + 8 Pizza Hut KidSmart coupon cards and complete set of 8 Denver Post cards, 2000-01 – 8 team cards including 3 signed, 2001-02 – 22 team cards + 41 Carl’s Jr coupon cards, 2002-03 – 25 team cards including 2 signed, 2003-04 – 32 team cards including 6 signed with Sakic (signed), Kariya (Signed), Selanne (signed). There are also an additional 58 team cards from the early-2000s (two different sets), and a few additional goodies including a few cards signed by David Aebischer. The majority of the postcards in the collection display beautifully with just light handling wear.
