Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2020
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 10/20/2020
Originally named after the 333rd Machine Gun Battalion of the 86th Infantry Division commanded by owner Frederic McLaughlin during the First World War, the Chicago Black Hawks were founded on May 1, 1926, and are one of the world’s most famous hockey teams, with arguably the most attractive uniform in all of sports. This lot contains a great grouping of Black Hawks team-issued press photos totaling approx 149, and ranging from the Stanley Cup championship season of 1960-61, to approx 1980, with the majority hailing from the 1970s. All glossy black and white prints with most in the 8” x 10” range, included, we have 20 photos from the Stanley Cup championship season of 1960-61 along with the original envelope, with Hull, Hall, Pilote, Mikita and others, 116 photos from mixed years – mostly the 1970s, including Desjardins, D. Hull, P. Esposito, Jarrett, Magnuson, Maki, Martin, Mohns, Vasko, the Hull brothers and others, with numerous players having photos from multi seasons, and 13 colour postcards from 1978-79 with original envelope including Magnuson, Mikita and others.
As an added bonus, there are also a few older or second generation prints of earlier players including Mike Karakas and Ray Frederic. There is also a press photo of Tommy Ivan from 1952. The majority of the photos display well with light handling wear as well as the odd corner ding, crease or blemish, with a bend to each of the 1960-61 photos from improper storage.
