The donator of North America’s oldest annually awarded trophy, Frederick Stanley served as the 6th Governor General of Canada from 1888-1893. This lot contains a magnificent cabinet photo, along with 11 additional antique photos of the Lord of Preston. At roughly 7” x 9”, the photo has been affixed to a 10 ¼” x 14 ½” mount with the credits listed beneath along with “The Right Honorable the Earl of Derby, G.C.B.”. The photo remains in flawless condition, with the mount exhibiting some wear to edges along with toning. The additional photos of Stanley were likely culled from contemporary publications, and they remain in pleasing condition and range in size from roughly 4 ¾” x 6 ¾” to 7 ½” x 10”.
Also included in this interesting antique lot are additional 4 ½” x 6 ¾” photos, also taken from publications of Byng, Dufferin, Lansdowne and Lorne. A copy of The Citizen newspaper from 1901 will accompany, with interesting articles of Ottawa’s sporting endeavors, along with a large composite fold-out with images of individuals who served Canada and Britain in South Africa in 1899-1900.
