Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Winter 2015
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 2/25/2015
This amazing circa-1950 Montreal Canadiens game-worn No. 1 wool jersey dates from the dawn of the Habs’ great dynasty years. The magnificent triple felt CH crest sewn on the front in red, white and blue features the open-ended logo that soon became a closed C in the early-1950s. The crest remains in wonderful condition with vibrant colors, as does the blue on red double felt number 1 sewn on the back. There are four team repairs here. One on the front hem, a large one on the front tail, another above the CH crest, and one other on the left sleeve. More game wear shows in reddish-brown stains on the front. This wondrous wool gamer was likely worn by goalie Gerry McNeil, who wore #1 for the Canadiens from 1947-54. HOF goalie Bill Durnan wore the number throughout his career with the Canadiens, which came to an end when he retired at the end of the 1949-50 season.
