Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014

Terrific vintage bat is this "Georgia Cracker" example from the Hanna Bat Company of Athens, Georgia, a company who began making bats in the late 1920s and ended in 1976. Still in splendid condition, this 34” long brown bat has parts of the “Georgia Cracker” brand name and the “Hanna” name worn off now but can still be read, while the wood itself is solid and shows only normal game wear with some slightly faded areas of the handle and small areas of chipping. The “Georgia Cracker” bat was first put out in the 1930’s, and “Cracker” is commonly known as a sometimes derogatory term used to describe rural inhabitants of Georgia. Several teams have used the nickname, including the Atlanta Crackers of the Southern League and the Atlanta Black Crackers, a team that played during the early-to-mid-20th century in the Negro Southern League.
