Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014
This lot is closed for bidding. Bidding ended on 11/4/2014
This stunning Babe Ruth circa 1927 signed baseball dates from the height of the New York Yankees’ Murderer’s Row lineup and the Bambino’s fabled 60-home run season. The Big Bam topped his own mark of 59 homers set in 1921 while leading a Yankees batting order that boasted the likes of Gehrig, Meusel, Lazzeri and Combs to a runaway AL pennant win and a four-game sweep of Pittsburgh in the World Series. You’ll be hard pressed to find a finer example of a Ruth signature than the black fountain pen game the Babe placed on the sweet spot of this Reach Official American League baseball. The quotation marks around Ruth’s nickname help date the signature as the Babe dropped the punctuation in his autographs around the 1928 season. This amazing Ruth signed baseball is also autographed by Dutch Ruether, who pitched for the Yankees from late August 1926 through the following season’s World Series sweep of the Pirates, further solidifying the dating of the ball. The ball is also signed by Jack Scott, who pitched for six different National League teams from 1916-29. Comes with a JSA letter of authenticity.
