Cool 1968-69 London Knights inaugural season game-worn jersey is attributed to Hall of Fame center Darryl Sittler. The future Maple Leafs great recorded 34 goals and 65 assists for 99 points in 53 games in his sophomore campaign with the newly-christened Knights, who played the previous season as the London Nationals when Darryl posted 63 points as an OHA Junior rookie. We attribute this Knights gamer to Sittler as per the number placement on the sleeves and the font of the numbers. Oval Sporting Goods size XXL tagging remains in the back of the tie-neck and there is a Dry Clean with Care flag tag on inside the left seam at the hip. Comes with a letter of provenance from Terry Martin, who played for the Knights from 1972-73 to 1974-75.
Martin states in his letter that this vintage London Knights game-worn jersey is originally from his personal collection and that it was given to him by the junior team’s trainer. Martin states that he did not wear this jersey but that it was worn by another player.
The outline of a removed captain’s C clearly shows on the left breast. We count five team repairs, including one on the right front of the jersey to the left of the bottom of the sewn-on Knights crest, one just to the right of the upper part of the right side of the crest, and another sewing fix on the left rear tail near the seam at the hip. There is another repair on the upper left back and a small white thread repair on the right front tail. The top edge of the “9” sewn on the back in lightly faded green and gold double twill has pulled away from the sewing line. There are reddish-brown stains above the number on the back and on the front of the jersey.
