Historical Hockey Memorabilia Auction Fall 2014

Team Canada officials in 1967-68 must have stood out in the crowd when wearing their fire engine red blazers like the one offered here as they accompanied Father David Bauer and the team around the world, including the Olympics in Grenoble, France. Featuring the sewn-on “Canada Hockey” patch on the left breast, this jacket, preserved in excellent condition with just a few small marks to note, includes fully intact maple leaf buttons, while on the inside pocket is a “Sainthill-Levine Toronto Montreal” patch, and inside the same pocket is a patch with all the information you’ll need, including the dates “67-24-11”, and “Dec. 28, 1967”, along with “Ken Laidlaw, Carling Breweries” and the sizes “W. 34, C. 43, I. 28 ½, and SL. 17”. Team Canada, featuring household names such as Bourbonnais, Broderick, Huck, Dineen, and O’Malley, would capture bronze at the Grenoble Games, which would be the last time Canada was represented at the Olympics until 1980 in Lake Placid, due to disagreements with the IIHF over the use of professionals in international competition. A classic Team Canada jacket to display and even wear, from a time when Canadian amateurs did their country proud without the help of NHL pros.
